Diana Krall & Toquinho

We just got the official info that Brazilian guitarist/singer Toquinho (a longtime partner of the late bossa nova poet Vinicius de Moraes) will be the opening act of Diana Krall's concert in São Paulo, at HSBC Brasil (Rua Bragança Paulista 1281, Chácara Santo Antonio, SP), on October 5, 2008, at 9:30PM. It will be the last of 6 concerts in the Diana Krall Brazilian tour. There are rumors that Toquinho may also do one or two songs together with Krall.
During his performance, Toquinho will be backed by Ivâni Sabino (bass) & Pepa D´Elia (drums).

Diana's dream for the Rio concert was to have Joao Gilberto as her guest of honor. Soon after she attended João's concert at the Carnegie Hall, last June, the invitation was done. But it proved impossible to materialize, since Gilberto would be starting his 2008 Japanese tour in the same day that Krall's DVD "Live in Rio" will be filmed (November 1st).
Tommy LiPuma's longtime friend Joao Donato was another option, but Donato is a pianist, and it would be too complicated to have two pianos on stage, besides the fact that he is a "singer" of very limited abilities.
A heavy lobby for Marcos Valle began, but didn't succed. Now the production team plans to film a number or two with Carlos Lyra on the acoustic guitar, at least for the "making of" section of the DVD. There's no confirmation yet about Lyra's possible apperance in the November 1st concert.
More details about it, the DVD and the Brazilian tour can be found here: http://jazzstation-oblogdearnaldodesouteiros.blogspot.com/2008/10/adlib-october-2008.html
