Pianist and singer Nellie Lutcher died June 8th at the age of 94 in Los Angeles. She had started working professionally at the age of 12, had shortly worked for Ma Rainey in the 1920s and had started singing in the 1930s. In the 40s her mix of blues, swing, pop and boogie-woogie proved successful and landed her eight top-10 R&B hits in the years between 1947 and 1950.
