The Chicago violinist Johnny Frigo died July 4th at the age of 90 of complications related to a fall. Frigo started to play the violin as a child, later changed to tuba, then double bass. He worked with Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey and in the orchestra of Chico Marx. Later he worked mostly in his home town, played concerts and studio gigs. In the 80s he changed back to the violin and made a name for himself as a virtuoso technician on that instrument. Two weeks ago he suffered a broken pelvis after a fall from which he never recovered.
