Chicago Jazz Archive
Eric Benson reports about the Chicago Jazz Archive which was founded in 1976 as part of the University of Chicago ( Chicago Maroon ). The archive directed by Deborah Gillaspie documents the rich jazz history of the city in records, tapes, personal papers and many memorabilia. Especially the collection of chemist John Steiner which became part of the archive in 2000 contains innumerable documents to the city's musical history, private recordings, interviews with musicians and much more. The jazz archive will move these days - from cluttered rooms in the Regenstein Library to the climate controlled space of the Special Collections Research Center.
