Though his resume is much longer, Russ is remembered primarily for his work with Chet Baker. Russ Freeman and The Jazz Bakery's owner, vocalist Ruth Price, had a long and wonderful history including the recording "Ruth Price with Shelly Manne & His Men at the Manne Hole"
(reissued on CD some years ago by Fantasy Records)

"The Russ Freeman Project was created to insure that Russ' music would not be forgotten. I wanted it to live again in a new way that would attract the younger musicians who did not know of his work. 'Remembering Russ' is the second CD in the Russ Freeman Project. Nathan Tanouye has taken Russ's bebop tunes and arranged them for our big band "Las Vegas Jazz Connection" It was my intent to create new interest in Russ' music. The result is exciting and hopefully as musical as Russ would have wished. Bobby Shew has added his artistry to the project. Tyia Wilson, vocalist, adds her imaginative lyrics and creativity. I could not ask for more." - Carolyn Freeman
