Willie Nelson & Wynton Marsalis: "Live from New York City" (Eagle Vision/ST2) 2009

Filmed over 2 nights - January 12 & 13, 2007 at Lincoln Center's Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York -, this concert sees Willie and Wynton combine their unique talents in a blend of jazz, blues, and country music which takes in Nelson originals, traditional songs, and standards by the likes of Hoagy Carmichael ("Stardust") and Duke Ellington ("Don't Get Around Much Anymore"). The tracks are intercut with interview segments in which Willie and Wynton give insights into the choice of songs they performed and the peculiar mix of musical styles that resulted.

Two icons of the American south - the outlaw country legend Willie Nelson and the trumpet virtuoso Wynton Marsalis - bring their own brand of the blues to bear in this powerful Lincoln Center concert. Each musician offers his unique style and perspective to the songs at hand, resulting in a moving blend of jazz and country that reinvigorates such tunes as "Georgia On My Mind," "Caldonia," "Night Life," "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Down By The Riverside."

Featuring: Dan Nimmer (piano), Carlos Henriquez (bass), Ali Jackson, Jr. (drums), Walter Blanding (saxophones) and Mickey Raphael (harmonica).
Directed by Danny Clinch, who benefits from the cinematic city panorama offered by the Frederick P. Rose Hall.
