CD of the Month - "Inventions Trio: Delaware River Suite"

CD of the Month
Inventions Trio: "Delaware River Suite" (No Blooze Music) 2009

Chamber-jazz of the highest caliber. Recorded in October 2007 & July 2008, this is the follow-up to the magical "Fantasy", the Inventions Trio debut CD. And it's another sublime album by Marvin Stamm (trumpet & flugelhorn), Bill Mays (acoustic piano) & Alisa Horn (cello).
Stamm contributes also with the delightful original "Charlotte Delights," while Mays, who handles most of the arrangements, composed the album centerpiece, "Delaware River Suite."
Brazilian music is represented by Jobim's "Zingaro" (aka "Retrato em Branco e Preto", treated almost like a classical piece) and Villa-Lobos' "Bachianas Brasileiras # 5".
A medley of Miles Davis' "Sippin' at Bells" and Bud Powell's "Dance of the Infidels", and a subtle version of Django Reinhardt's "Nuages" complete the program.
