CD of the Day - "Hank Crawford: We Got A Good Thing Going"

CD of the Day
Hank Crawford: "We Got A Good Thing Going" (CTI) 1987

Originally cut for Creed Taylor's Kudu label in 1972, it was reissued on CD in 1987, distributed by CBS in the USA, but quickly became out-of-print.
This album, Crawford's second for Kudu, features arrangements by Don Sebesky and Bob James, with the usual CTI all-star supporting cast: Ron Carter, Gordon Edwards, Richard Tee, Bernard Purdie, George Benson, Cornell Dupree, Phil Kraus, Arthur Jenkins and a string section.
The reissue producer, Didier Deutsch, added four previously unreleased bonus tracks to the CD: "Dirt Dobbler" (by Alfred Ellis), the Gordon Jenkins sumptuous ballad "This Is All I Ask", Sebesky's own "Jazz Bridge" and a lovely remake of the Thom Bell-Linda Creed r&b hit "Betcha By Golly Wow", later also covered for CTI by Freddie Hubbard on the "Polar AC" sessions.
