CDs of the Day - "J.T. Meirelles"

Meirelles: "Brazilian Explosion" (London) 1974
reissued on CD in Japan by EMI in 1994

includes electrifying samba-funk versions of Richard Strauss' "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (theme from "2001: A Space Odyssey) and Ary Barroso's "Bahia" (aka "Na Baixa do Sapateiro"), plus tender renditions of Jobim's "Nuvens Douradas" and Pixinguinha's "Carinhoso" featuring J.T. Meirelles on flute, backed by Luizão Maia, Pascoal Meirelles, Laercio de Freitas, Geraldo Vespar, a fiery brass section and an army of percussionists - including Mestre Marçal (father of Marçalzinho), Hermes, Ariovaldo, Eliseu, Dotô -, plus a samba choir in two "batucada" tracks.
My original quadraphonic LP copy was purchased at the "Discadoro" (how are you Mr. Ilídio Cristino de Oliveira?)
autographed by J.T. Meirelles to Arnaldo DeSouteiro:
"Pra você Arnaldo, o homem que sabe das coisas!
August 31, 1997,
Meirelles"

"Brasil: Escola do Jazz" (EMI Japan) 1994
this compilation (selected by DJ Gilles Peterson and writer Paul Bradshaw) includes J.T. Meirelles' version of Helio Matheus' hit "Kriola", from the "Brazilian Explosion" album pictured above.
CD signed by Meirelles, Marcos Valle and Wilson Simonal
