Peter Rühmkorf
(b: 25.Oct.1929, Dortmund/Germany;
d: 8.Jun.2008, Roseburg, Herzogtum Lauenburg/Germany)
The author Peter Rühmkorf died June 8th after a long illness at the age of 79 in Roseburg in the district of Herzogtum Lauenburg, Germany. He had been a member of the legendary "Gruppe 47" and one of the most important German poets of the present day. His poetic language contained a language power that combined the lyrical with the political. One of his loves was jazz; and his jazz and lyric performances together with the pianist Michael Naura, the vibraphonist Wolfgang Schlüter and the saxophonist Leszek Zadlo belong among the most striking examples of German jazz and literature projects. Naura, Schlüter and Zadlo also performed at the memorial service at Hamburg's St. Johannis church. Obituaries: Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (1); Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (2).
