d: 13.Jun.2008, Offenburg/Germany)
The violinist Titi Winterstein died June 13th at the age of only 51 in Offenburg, Germany after a long and serious illness. Winterstein had played in the band of the guitarist Häns'sche Weiss in the 1970s, and he had later performed with stars like Stéphane Grappelli and Yehudi Menuhin. "In several films and TV documentaries about the life of German Sinti and Roma he kept alive the memory of his family which nearly completely fell victim to the Nazi pogroms," writes Wolfgang Sandner in his Obituary for the Frankfurter Allgemeinen Zeitung.
