Danny Moss

The British tenor saxophonist Danny Moss died May 29th at the age of 80 in Perth, Australia. He was influenced by tenorists such as Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster, but also by Don Byas, Lucky Thompson, Zoot Sims, Bud Freeman and Eddie Miller. Moss was a sought-after sideman and played with bands such as the ones of Ted Heath, Humphrey Lyttelton or Johnny Dankworth. Since the 60s he performed mostly with his own quartet, often accompanying his wife, the singer Jeannie Lamb, and also played with the Pizza Express All Stars which he helped found in 1980. In 1989 he and his wife settled in Perth, Australia. Obituary: The Independent.
