Claude Nobs to receive "Preis Herbert"
Claude Nobs who founded the Montreux Jazz Festival 40 years ago will receive this year's Preis Herbert, an award presented since 2001 to a person who used the media to promote the alpine region within Europe (Jungfrau-Zeitung). Nobs explains that he often shows the alps to musicians who play at the festival. He took Quincy Jones to the Aletsch glazier, for instance. Other musicians return in the winter for skiing and often visit him at home. Besides presenting music it is of big concern to him to promote the alpine region around Montreux. The festival is running well at the moment, he explains; he does not even think about retiring.
