One of the grooviest cats of the 60s -- heard here in an amazing array of jazz, bossa, and soundtrack recordings! Lalo Schifrin first rose to fame working in the group of Dizzy Gillespie, but by the time of these sides he was already stepping out strongly on his own -- as one of the freshest voices in 60s jazz, both a writer and player whose music forever transformed the sound of his generation! Schifrin's music is often heavy on bossa influences, but quickly steps into soul as well -- mixing the best elements of both genres in search of the hippest sort of groove -- the sort best known from his famous soundtracks, but which is heard here in an array of wonderful Verve sides from the 60s. CD features 18 tracks in all -- including "How To Open At Will The Most Beautiful Window", "Machinations", "Lalo's Bossa Nova", "Secret Code", "The Man From Thrush", "The Wave", "Mannix", "Dissolving", "Agnus Dei", "Bossa Antique", "Prelude #2", and "Silvia" -- plus "Theme From Joy House", recorded with Jimmy Smith, and "The Fakir", with Cal Tjader. © 1996-2008, Dusty Groove America, Inc.
