Brazilian by birth, singer by trade, Kenia’s musical universe is rooted in samba, bossa nova and choro, heavily influenced by American jazz. After being featured on Claudio Roditi's debut album, "Red On Red," recorded in 1984 and that has just been reissued on CD this month in Japan, she released seven solo CDs (and counting) and one DVD live at Warsaw Jazz Festival, and collaborated with Ivan Lins, Paquito D’Rivera, Jay Ashby, Justo Almario, Cesar Camargo Mariano and James Taylor, as well as with renowned producers Creed Taylor (on "Red on Red" as well as on "The Devil Toothpick" soundtrack) and Jeff Webber.

Kenia’s long time commitment to promoting Brazilian music and culture includes hands on clinics and workshops in phrasing and Brazilian rhythms, including an introduction to Brazilian rhythms for children.

Kenia has a deep and sultry, richly diverse and unexpectedly explosive voice. In both her native Portuguese and English, her sound transcends geographical and musical boundaries.
