Message from IAJE's President, Chuck Owen

Dear IAJE Member,

I'm writing to let you know that the Board of Directors is announcing Bill McFarlin has stepped down from his position as Executive Director of IAJE today. IAJE has experienced tremendous growth during Bill’s tenure. His dedicated service since 1984 has guided IAJE's evolution to that of an association widely recognized as the global leader in the field of jazz. As he embarks on his new post as Executive Vice President of Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, please join us in wishing him well.

Vivian Orndorff, IAJE Associate Executive Director, and Steve Baker, long-time IAJE Executive Producer, will immediately begin management of the day to day operations of the association. They are incredible, experienced, and passionate arts executives! We are indeed fortunate to have their capable leadership.

An extensive search process for a new dynamic Executive Director who can lead IAJE into the future will be announced within the next month. We envision a proven leader that has a strong understanding of jazz education, the jazz aesthetic, and the jazz industry, as well as a proven track record for fundraising and new business development. Complete information on the search will be available shortly at www.iaje.org.

Finally, let me assure you that the quality programs and membership benefits that IAJE is noted for will not skip a beat during this time of transition. Plans for both the 2009 Conference in Seattle as well as our exciting, new initiative, the "IAJE/Park City Jazz Summit," are moving forward rapidly. Make plans now to attend!

Sincerely,
Chuck Owen, President
