CD of the Day - "Ecué, Ritmos Cubanos"

CD of the Day
"Ecué, Ritmos Cubanos" (Pablo) 1978/1991

Reissued on CD for the first time in 1991, on Fantasy Records' Original Jazz Classic Series, "Ecué - Ritmos Cubanos" was recorded on January 20 & 21, 1977, in LA.
It's a sensational 40-minute-plus afro-cuban descarga (jam session) produced by Norman Granz, and one of my favorite albums featuring Francisco Aguabella, who took part of an all-star percussion team which also included Louie Bellson, Walfredo de Los Reyes (Sr. & Jr.), Alex Acuña, Emil Richards, Manolo Badrena and a young Luis Conte.
Louie Bellson's opening tune, "Javilla," is a winner, with Clare Fischer on Fender Rhodes and Lew Tabackin on flute, but the whole album is a massive set. The bassists are Cachao (Israel Lopez) and John B. Williams, both playing both acoustic & electric basses. A must-have item.
