Werner Loll

He cannot do just nothing, the vibraphonist Werner Loll tells Almut Behl ( Kieler Nachrichten ). He seems a little nervous as he scurries from the piano to the vibraphone, playing some classical phrases on one, jazz phrases on the other instrument before he returns with a printout of his résumé. The musician who was born in Würzburg came to Kiel to study chemistry; after he graduated he continued to study musicology in which he holds a doctoral degree. In the 80s he participated in many projects in Kiel, in an then very innovative scene which allowed for formal and melodic experiments. He also made a name playing music for silent movies, not only in Kiel but also in Hamburg's Metropolis Cinema where he performed on a regular basis. He worked in circus bands, for weddings and receptions, wrote music for instructional documentaries and even a musical the manuscript of which ended up in a drawer, tough.
