R.I.P.: Johnny Fourie
The South African guitarist Johnny Fourie died August 19th in Johannesburg at the age of 70. Fourie worked as a studio guitarist in the 50s and recorded with the Manhattan Brothers, Lemmy Mabaso, the Merry Blackbird and others. In 1961 he moved to London where for four years he led the house band at Ronnie Scott's club. In 1975 he returned to South Africa and founded his own band in 1979. Later he also taught at the jazz department of the Pretoria Technikon. Obituary: iafrica.com .
