NY - The JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ORCHESTRA WITH WYNTON MARSALIS will embark on their Jazz Masterpieces Tour across North America from September 8 through October 3, kicking off concerts and events to celebrate the big band’s 20th anniversary,

Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra personnel includes: Music Director and Trumpet: WYNTON MARSALIS; Trumpets: RYAN KISOR, BRANDON LEE, MARCUS PRINTUP; Trombones: CHRIS CRENSHAW, VINCENT GARDNER, ELLIOT MASON; Reeds: WALTER BLANDING, VICTOR GOINES, SHERMAN IRBY, TED NASH, JOE TEMPERLEY; Piano: DAN NIMMER; Bass: CARLOS HENRIQUEZ; Drums: ALI JACKSON.

The “greatest large jazz ensemble working today” (The Chicago Tribune) will perform selections from a variety of eras including big band arrangements of the legends of Blue Note records—Lee Morgan, Wayne Shorter, Horace Silver—as well as the timeless swing of Count Basie’s Kansas City Suite and new and original music from JLCO soloist Ted Nash’s piece Portrait in Seven Shades, inspired by works by modern artists Marc Chagall, Salvador Dali, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock and Vincent Van Gogh.

Since 1988, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra has been comprised of 15 of jazz music’s leading soloists and has:
toured over 900 cities in more than 35 countries on 5 continents
collaborated with 20 of the world’s leading symphony orchestras, dance and other ensembles
released 11 recordings
compiled a library of nearly 1,000 pieces of jazz music previously unavailable
been featured on 10 national and international TV and radio broadcasts.
The remarkably versatile Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra has performed and led educational events – including Jazz for Young PeopleSM family concert series, the Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival, the Jazz for Young People Curriculum, educational residencies, workshops and concerts for students and adults - in New York, across the U.S. and around the world. The big band has performed a vast repertoire, from rare historic compositions to Jazz at Lincoln Center-commissioned works, including compositions and arrangements by Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Thelonious Monk, Mary Lou Williams, Billy Strayhorn, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Charles Mingus, Sy Oliver, Oliver Nelson and many others.
