Sting & Gil Evans: "Strange Fruit" (JazzDoor)
Maybe the best Sting concert ever, backed by the Gil Evans Orchestra at the Perugia Jazz Festival, Italy, on July 11, 1987.
Besides Jimi Henrix's "Up From The Skies" and Tony Williams' "There Comes A Time," two of the highlights, this massive performance (of 1 hour and 42 minutes) also includes "Little Wing," "Consider Me Gone," "Tea in The Sahara/Walking on the Moon," "Synchronicity," "Roxanne" and another big hit, "Message in a Bottle," performed as the encore.
The line-up of Gil's band at that time was amazing, featuring such names as George Adams, John Surman, Branford Marsalis, Urszula Dudziak, Lew Soloff, Mark Egan, Danny Gottlieb, Delmar Brown, Gil Goldstein, John Clark, David Bargeron, Chris Hunter, Shunzo Ono, Tom Malone, George Lewis, Miles Evans (Gil's son) and Anita Evans (Gil's wife).
