Last Thursday night, May 16, at Tribeca Performing Arts Center Highlights In Jazz, producer Jack Kleinsinger presented Randy Brecker - the best jazz trumpeter in the contemporary jazz scene - with their annual award.
Every year since 1974, Highlights In Jazz has honored a living jazz musician for their 'matchless musical achievements'.
Previous honorees have included Lionel Hampton, Roy Eldridge, Frank Wess, Roy Haynes, Maxine Sullivan, Hank Jones, Sonny Fortune and Dr. Billy Taylor, to name a few.
A stellar lineup of jazz masters and rising stars celebrated Randy at the May 16th concert.
Pianist George Cables, bassist Buster Williams, drummer Danny Gottlieb, drummer/vibraphonist Chuck Redd, vocalist Veronica Swift, and saxophonists Peter Anderson and Will Anderson and trombonist Joe McDonough.
