Walter Lang - September News

Master pianist/composer Walter Lang (whose beautiful "Ashiya" CD with Lee Konitz was elected by Jazz Station and Arnaldo DeSouteiro as one of the best jazz releases in 2007) tell us about his most recent and upcoming projects:

"This last summer we had some exciting concerts: after playing a summer concert for the German ambassador in Rome with my quintet "Walter Lang’s Romance",I also played a festival and live TV recording in Nish in an old amphytheater with the Dusko Goykovich Quintet and did a DVD-recording concert in Munich's famous Bavaria Studio with Trio ELF.

We also celebrate the release of our 2nd Trio ELF CD “746” on Enja Records with a tour.
Also brand new are the CD’s of Jenny Evans – Lunar Tunes on Enja Records
and the Thomas Faist Quintett - Me-We on Nagel-Heyer Records
*******
o The drummer Rick Hollander, with whom I've been playing for more than twenty years, composed and recorded beautiful material with his group.
o Together with the singer Brano Likic, trumpeter Dusko Goykovich, Bassist Martin Gjakonovski and drummer Dejan Tercic, we recorded an album of standard tunes.
o Also waiting to be released is a CD by the great singer Lisa Wahlandt & her group.

Touring with Lee Konitz & Japan
The very event, that made last year so special, was my collaboration with the great alto saxophonist Lee Konitz; after having the honor of playing and recording with him music that I had composed especially for our duo and then share the bandstand with him for more then a dozen of gigs all over Europe was a real treat. The CD is called “Ashiya” and it came out on Pirouet Records.

The material for that CD I composed during a month long tour of Japan and Korea with my trio, where we played 27 gigs in 27 cities. We celebrated the
Swing Journal “Gold Disc Award”, that we received for our latest CD "Romantische Strasse" for M&I Records. During that tour we did a TV broadcast for the Korean TV station EBS.
