For the first time, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis and the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra meet on one stage to honor the legacy of the big band. In this concert event entitled Big Band Bash, each band demonstrates the styles that distinguish their differences and reveal the similarities of the East and West Coast sounds.
Before each concert, trumpeter Sean Jones of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and members of the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra discuss the music of the evening and the significance of the big band in jazz. Pre-concert lectures are free for ticket holders and take place at 7 pm on October 23-25 at the Irene Diamond Education Center at Jazz at Lincoln Center.
