Kent Leon Brinkley was born on September 24, 1949 and passed away on February 6, 2010 in Los Angeles, California.
Kent emerged as a promising bassist as a member of Freddie Hubbard's group (alongside George Cables, Ralph Penland and Junior Cook) in the early 70s, having recorded on such best-selling albums as "Keep Your Soul Together" (CTI) and "High Energy" (Columbia).
He also appeared on Rudolph Johnson's "The Second Coming," Monk Montgomery's "Bass Odyssey," Charles Tyler's "Eastern Man Alone," Bobby Hutcherson's "Inner Glow" and Arthur Adams' "Home Brew."
Later, he formed his own band, Brinks, which featured Don Moors.

I met Kent Brinkley when I was 16 years old. I was working with Billy Paul touring and we were doing the Newport Jazz Festival. He was easy to talk to and he was very inspiring. Eight years later, when I was a full time student in the Jazz Studies program at U.S.C.
I had run into him again performing around town at the local jam session venues. Again, he was an outstanding musician and very approachable. Years later after I graduated from U.S.C. I was privileged to have done some gigs with, however I lot contact and I was not until recently on July 4, 2015 when I was gigging with Norm Adjedon that I was informed that he had succumb.
R.I.P Mr. Brinkley and may God bless you.
You mentor,
Louis Lee

Sorry to read of the passing of Kent Brinkley _ _ 9 years after the fact. Never forget the rainy Sun. afternoon, many years ago, that Kent & I got drunk together in a little bar in Seal Beach (PCH & Warner Av) that years later became (for a short time) the Blue Café.
I was impressed to get to spend that time with a band mate of Freddie Hubbard's.
