Freddie Hubbard was elected # 1 Trumpet player of the year in the DownBeat 1974 Readers Poll, having received 977 votes. Miles Davis came in second with 899 votes, followed by Maynard Ferguson (512), Dizzy Gillespie (339) and Randy Brecker (255).
