Ralph Hutchinson

The trombonist Ralph Hutchinson died July 7th of cancer at the age of 83. The trombonist was born in Northern England and arrived in the USA in 1948. He worked for a grammophone needle factory in Chicago, playing in local clubs on the side. From 1951 to 1956 he worked with Muggsy Spanier's band, in 1959 turning down an offer to play with Louis Armstrong's band for family reasons. He worked as a musician and a golf pro in Florida and in the early 1960s was in the band for "The Jackie Gleason Show" for four years. Obituary: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
