Toninho Horta: "Toninho in Vienna" (PAO) 2007
Finally comes out in Europe the album recorded in Austria by one of the (few) true contemporary Brazilian geniuses.
Wonderful songs, great performances, superb audio quality thanks to the engineering of Cristoph Burgstaller, who did the recording, the mixing and the mastering.
A solo recital, although Toninho often overdubs a second acoustic guitar and adds wordless vocals in some others like in the moving recreation of Gershowin's "Summetime", on which violinist Rudi Berger appears as special guest. Later on, Toninho pays tribute to him through "Samba for Rudi".
Besides "Summertime", the only other classic is Arthur Hamilton's "Cry Me A River" - like you have never heard before.
Among the 15 tracks are some of Toninho's masterpieces like "Aquelas Coisas Todas", "Beijo Partido", "Meu Vizinho Canário Azul" and the up-tempo samba "Mocidade".
