The Hancock Project: The Music of Herbie Hancock
In anticipation of a forthcoming release on Chesky Records, veteran players Lenny White, Buster Williams, George Colligan and Steve Wilson will perform the music of Herbie Hancock over four nights at the Iridium. For these shows, the core band will be augmented by Wallace Roney, Joe Locke (March 8 only) and Tom Harrell (March 9 only).
Williams, especially, is no stranger to the music of Mr. Hancock. The bassist has recorded on a number of landmark Hancock albums, including 1969's Fat Albert Rotunda and 1972's Sextant. Which is not to downplay White's connection to the music of Hancock: Hancock appears on White's Big City album, from 1977, and the pair played together on Jaco's self-titled record in 1976.
