Auditions for Jazz at Lincoln Center's Middle School Jazz Academy

Tuition-free intensive jazz instruction
Applications due March 10, 2008

Jazz at Lincoln Center seeks promising middle school instrumentalists from New York City to apply and audition for its fourth year of Middle School Jazz Academy (MSJA), a tuition-free intensive jazz instruction program held throughout the school year.

ELIGIBILITY:

Students must:
- Have played an instrument for at least a year
-Be entering grades 6-8 for the 2008-09 school year
-Attend a school or live in one of New York City's five boroughs
-Be interested in learning more about jazz
-Preference given to students of families with limited means.

Each year Jazz at Lincoln Center selects 15 students from all five boroughs of New York City, in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades to be a part of MSJA. Each student is awarded a full tuition scholarship—based on application, audition and family interview—that provides intensive jazz instruction throughout the school year. The MSJA faculty, led by Director, Eli Yamin, is comprised of accomplished musicians deeply committed to teaching and mentoring today’s youth through innovative and effective methods.

Now in its fourth year, this unique program offers a course of study in instrumental performance, including Saturday Academy and weekly private lessons, as well as broader youth development activities. Students have the opportunity to meet and learn from outstanding faculty and guest musicians including members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
