New talent: Grace Kelly

Phil Woods presented his black leather cap to the 15-year old alto saxophonist Grace Kelly on stage last year, as Owen McNally reports in The Hartford Courant . He was enthusiastic about her interpretation of the standard "I'll Remember April". Never before had he presented one of his caps to an alto saxophonist, he said and adds: "Hooray for the future of jazz and the alto saxophone!" Kelly wears the cap for each of her gigs. She attends high school in Boston, but has already performed at Carnegie Hall and Dizzy's Club Coca Cola. She has won several prizes and recorded three CDs.

Whether she has faced any problems because of her name? No, most of her friends have no idea who the other Grace Kelly actually was. She had not been named after the actress, but was originally born as Grace Chung. Only when her mother married Robert Kelly, she received the new surname. Her mother always used to listen to Stan Getz for breakfast. All of this, though, has not done her any harm. She is a normal teenager, loves to go to the movies, to dance and has already had a boyfriend.
