"Chamber Jazz” – Ted Rosenthal
Dicapo Opera Theatre

184 East 76th Street (between 3rd Ave. and Lexington)
New York, NY 10021

"Please join us at Dicapo Opera Theatre on Fri 3/26 for an evening of my original compositions, including a movement of a piano concerto, dance suite, chamber works and jazz tunes. Great ensemble of established artists and up-and-comers," says Rosenthal. "I'm looking forward to perform with Sara Caswell, Randy Sandke, Thomson Kneeland, Maria Jeffers, Jon Gordon, Matt Musselman, Janelle Reichman, and Devin Gray at the Dicapo Opera Theatre on Friday eve!"

As listed in this week's New Yorker magazine:
The season finale of the Jazz at Dicapo series, “Chamber Jazz,” features work by the series’ artistic director, Ted Rosenthal, a renowned pianist who has worked with jazz giants such as Gerry Mulligan, Art Farmer, and James Moody. The program includes Rosenthal’s original compositions (a movement of his piano concerto, “The Survivor”) as well as his jazz reinterpretations of themes by Mussorgsky, Rachmaninoff, and Gershwin. The players include the violinist Sara Caswell, the bassist Thomson Kneeland, and the drummer Devin Gray.

For those who are not yet familiar with Ted Rosenthal's work, I strongly recommend his albums with my late friend Gerry Mulligan (I had the privilege to attend a couple of concerts they did together during the "Re-Birth of the Cool" Tour) as well as Ted's second CD as a leader, "Calling You," recorded @ Rudy Van Gelder Studio, in 1992, for Creed Taylor's CTI label, featuring Eddie Gomez, Dave Weckl, Donald Harrison, Kevin Eubanks and Bobby Hutcherson.
