Anna Mjöll @ Charlie O's, March 26

After acclaimed apperances in such jazz clubs as Vitello's, Vibrato's and Baked Potato, LA-based Icelandic jazz princess Anna Mjoll will be performing at Charlie O's (13725 Victory Boulevard -Valley Glenn, CA, ph: 818-994-3058), this Friday, March 26.

Anna returns to Charlie O's with the same band that backed her there last November: John Heard (the legendary bassist who played with Moacir Santos, Oscar Peterson, Wes Montgomery, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Rollins), drummer Roy McCurdy (Cannonball Adderley, Sarah Vaughn, Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, Herbie Hancock, Joe Williams) and pianist Andy Langham (Jon Hendricks, Randy Brecker, Clark Terry, Mike Stern).

Call for reservations: (818)994-3058

"As far as repertoire goes...everything from Invitation to Desafinado to 500 Miles High to Round Midnight to One Note Samba to How High The Moon, All of Me, Perdido, Blue Skies, Lover Man, Old Black Magic, Cry Me A River, Misty, Summertime, How Insensitive, plus an original I wrote with trumpeter Lew Soloff," says Anna, one of the Top 5 Jazz Singers of 2009 in the 31st Annual Jazz Station Poll, thanks to her fascinating debut solo CD, "Shadow of Your Smile," which features such guests as Vinnie Colaiuta, John Robinson, Dave Carpenter, Don Grusin and Luis Conte.

Anna is excited about her new collaboration with trumpeter Lew Soloff, with whom I had the honor to work back in 1987 in NY on Yana Purim's "Harvest Time" album, and who is famous for his associations with Blood, Sweat & Tears, The Gil Evans Orchestra and the Manhattan Jazz Quintet (btw, once again voted Best Jazz Group of the Year in Japan's Swing Journal 2009 Readers Poll).

"I am writing like a maniac for my next CD, all originals on that one and then finishing up a Christmas CD in May," the diva reveals.
