Bill Kohlhaase former jazz critic of the LA Times described John Beasley’s playing and music as “reflecting a variety of generational influences, incorporating the emphatic chordal clusters of Herbie Hancock, the rhythmic quirkiness of Monk and the lush intelligence of Art Tatum into a highly refined personal voice.”

Beasley’s solo recording career began in 1989 when he was touring with Miles Davis. He released his first album “Cauldron,” which was produced by Walter Becker (Steely Dan) on Windam Hill Records, to critical acclaim. He has since released his ninth CD, "Positootly!" with mostly original songs, featuring Jeff “Tain” Watts, Bennie Maupin, James Genus, Brian Lynch, and Munyungo Jackson.

In addition to his work as a composer/pianist and bandleader, Beasley works in film and TV, including lead arranger for “American Idol.” He is also a sought after educator. He has given master classes and workshops at universities and schools worldwide, including New York University, Grammy Camp, ASCAP “I Create Music.”
