Reissue of the Month - "Till Bronner: Midnight"

CD Reissue of the Month
Till Brönner: "Midnight" (Verve) 1996/2009

Forget about the mellow "Rio" and the soporific "Oceana". No musical connection to Till's top albums under the highly positive influence of Chet Baker either.
Finally back on CD, Till's sought-after project from 1996, "Midnight" is a massive set full of infectious funky grooves, when Randy Brecker was his main inspiration.
Inspired versions of Marvin Gaye's classic "What's Goin' On" and Stevie Wonder's latin-tinged soul hit "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thinf," plus exciting originals by Bronner, George Whitty (then playing with the Brecker Brothers), David Mann, Jim Tunnel and others, with a perfect balance between electronic programming & "real human performances" by Whitty, Michael Brecker, Anthony Jackson, Dennis Chambers, Manolo Badrena, Jim Tunnel, Dean Brown et al.
