Vinyl of the Day - "Freddie Hubbard: Liquid Love"

Vinyl of the Day
Freddie Hubbard: "Liquid Love" (Columbia) 1975
Featuring the underrated Brazilian percussion master Mayuto Correa plus George Cables, Carl Burnett, Carl Randall Jr., Johnny Guitar Watson, Ray Parker, Henry Franklin, Chuck Rainey, Al Hall, Ian Underwood and Spider Webb.
Never reissued on CD, not even in Asia. Sony must do it urgently!
Includes a beautiful reading of "Midnight at the Oasis" (also covered, that same year, by Hubert Laws on "The Chicago Theme"), plus "Lost Dreams," "Yesterday's Thoughts" and three originals: "Put it in the Pocket," "Kuntu" and the title track.
This is the "Liquid Love" advertisement published in the August 14, 1975 issue of Down Beat magazine.
Some months earlier, Freddie Hubbard had been voted the Best Trumpeter of 1974 in the 39th Annual DownBeat Readers Poll, once again ahead of Miles Davis. The results were printed in the December 19, 1974 issue (click on the image below to enlarge it), on page 22.
In the Down Beat 1975 Critics Poll results, Hubbard was # 2, with Dizzy Gillespie topping the Trumpet category and Miles Davis appearing in the third place.
