Whitey Mitchell

died Jan. 17, 2009, California)
The bass player and writer Whitey Mitchell died in California at the age of 76. Mitchell, who was the brother of bass player Red Mitchell, started bis jazz career playing with musicians such as Benny Goodman, Gene Krupa and Lester Young. He then moved to Hollywood and became a staff writer and story editor for several TV shows. In later years he returned to playing the bass again. Obituary: The Desert Sun.
