Single of the Day
"Fuse One" (CTI Japan) 1980
Produced by Creed Taylor, released in October 1980, both this single and the album reached the top of the jazz and pop charts in Japan, where they sold over 100,000 copies helped by the use of the track "Double Steal" as the main theme & ad of a TDK TV news program. In Japan, such ads are called "TVCF", which means Commercial Film.
This single includes radio edited versions of Jeremy Wall's "Double Steal" (Wall's and Ronnie Foster's solos were cut off, remaining only Joe Farrell's fiery tenor sax solo, with the support of John McLaughlin, Larry Coryell, Will Lee, Ndugu & Paulinho da Costa) and John McLaughlin's etheral fusion gem "Friendship", featuring Joe Farrell's C flute and McLaughlin's acoustic guitar flights backed by Tony Williams, Stanley Clarke, Jeremy Wall and Don Grusin).
