Stan Getz Quartet: "Major Generale" (J-Bop) 2001
What a band! Despite the poor recording quality, Getz, Stanley Cowell, Miroslav Vitous and Jack DeJohnette play their asses off in this concert recorded live in Paris back in 1969, but only released for the first time (in Germany!) a few years ago. Flora Purim, then still a completely unknown artist in Europe, steals the concert when she joins the group for three astonishingly sensuous vocal performances - backing herself on the acoustic guitar - on Edu Lobo's "Pra Dizer Adeus" ("To Say Goodbye", with the English lyrics added by Lani Hall), Jobim's "Corcovado" (which brings the crowd to her feet with a long & warm applause), and Luiz Claudio's "Deixa A Nega Gingar", mistakenly identified as Egberto Gismonti's "Love Reborn" (actually, the title of a song by George Duke not heard on the album...big mess!).
