**********
The legendary Les Paul, father of the solid-body electric guitar, inventor of overdubbing and multi-track recording, king of the '50s pop charts, rock 'n' roll pioneer, tells his own rags-to-riches story in a performance-documentary by filmmakers John Paulson and James Arnts. With the help of music superstars B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Jeff Beck and Tony Bennett, along with industry pioneer Ahmet Ertegun, Les Paul narrates his life story in the brand new, unforgettable documentary which appears on DVD (distributed by ST2) following the July 11, 2007, national television premiere on the award-winning PBS series American Masters. "Chasing Sound" features a wall-to-wall soundtrack of the greatest hits with rare and exclusive performances by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Elvis Presley and more.
Les Paul has been "chasing the perfect sound" since his boyhood in Waukesha, Wisconsin, when he punched new chords into his mother's piano roll and turned his bedsprings into a radio antenna which would pull in the raucous jazz broadcasts from Chicago and the lonesome harmonica from the Grand Old Opry. Irascible, egotistical, indefatigable, an inveterate tinkerer and practical joker, he's the last of that self-educated, brilliantly innovative generation of musicians and media pioneers who revolutionized popular music and re-invented the global culture.
By 1952 Les Paul was not only the most popular guitar player in America, he was an innovator in guitar and electronics design. Known for his unique sound, Les Paul achieved new levels of accomplishment with his creation of the ingenious recording techniques of overdubbing and multi-track recording as well as the solid-body electric guitar - laying the foundation of the rock and roll revolution. Les Paul tells his own incredible story in this amazing film featuring breathtaking, rarely seen classic footage.
