Single of the Month - "Tamba 4: Berimbau"

7" Single of the Month
Tamba 4: "Berimbau" (A&M/CTI)

Composed by Oswaldo Nunes
Arranged by Luiz Eça
Produced by Creed Taylor
Engineered by Rudy Van Gelder
Featuring: Luiz Eça (acoustic piano & vocals), Bebeto (flute & vocals), Ohana (drums & percussion) and Dorio Ferreira (acoustic guitar)

Maybe the rarest single in the CTI catalog. And certainly the rarest single on Tamba' entire discography. Recorded in 1969 for the third and final Tamba 4 album recorded for A&M/CTI, but a never released one. Only two tracks came out on single formats: "California Soul" (yes, the Ashford & Simpson hit, arranged by Johnny Pate) and "Berimbau" (arranged by Tamba's leader, Luiz Eça), which is not the famous Baden Powell/Vinicius de Moraes tune that Tamba Trio had previously recorded in Brazil some years earlier, more exactly in 1964 for the "Tempo" LP (Philips). This other "Berimbau" is a very swinging samba composed by Oswaldo Nunes (1930-1991), and also known as "Na Onda do Berimbau," a big hit in the Brazilian Carnival of 1965 Pure delight.
