DK in Michael Mann's "Public Enemies"

From the the jazz concert halls to the big screen: catch Diana Krall in a cameo in the Michael Mann-directed film 'Public Enemies,' singing the jazz standard "Bye Bye Blackbird" (Mort Dixon/Ray Henderson), opening nationwide July 1st. Krall's rendition of the jazz classic will also appear on the soundtrack for the movie, scheduled for US release on June 30 by Decca, an associated label of Universal.

Starring Johnny Depp as John Dillinger, and featuring original musical score by Elliot Goldenthal, the action-thriller "Public Enemies" is co-starred by Christian Bale and Academy Award® winner Marion Cotillard in the story of legendary Depression-era outlaw John Dillinger, the charismatic bank robber whose lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover's fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), and a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public.

The soundtrack album includes six tracks by Academy and Golden Globe Award winning composer Elliot Goldenthal and eight interpolations of blues, jazz and standards. Elliot Goldenthal's work includes such film scores as "Aliens 3," "Batman Forever" and the Oscar winning "Frida."

Besides Krall's new version of "Bye Bye Blackbird," the other main tracks are: "Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground," performed by Blind Willie Johnson; "Love Me Or Leave Me" & "The Man I Love" performed by Billie Holiday; and the opening song "Ten Million Slaves," by contemporary bluesman Otis Taylor, who also plays "Nasty Letter."
