Dave Brubeck: relaxing?
The 86-year old pianist Dave Brubeck plans to play jazz till the end, as he tells Adam Tanner ( Washington Post ). "Relaxing" is a word not often used in his family. Some weeks ago he performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival and also could celebrate his 65th wedding anniversary with Iola Brubeck. When Duke Ellington was invited to the White House for his 70th birthday, that was one of the few times he admired Nixon, Brubeck says. But Nixon didn't like his playing. In the 60s and 70s Brubeck often performed with his sons wearing the fashion of the time - long hair and flowery shirts. When he sees photos from that period, he just hates the way he looked then.
