Randy Weston
On the occasion of his concert in Marciac, Fara C. talks to the 81 year old pianist Randy Weston ( L'Humanité ). He likes to play in places like this where the audience really listens and comes because of the music. Even in South Africa, where he never performed during apartheid, they recently introduced a Black History month as it is common in the USA since years. France should think about doing something similar considering its long African past. In America he and his musical partners were among the first to bring jazz and its African connections to the schools. A few weeks before Max Roach passed away, Weston had visited the drummer who sat in a wheel chair and did not play the drums anymore, but had kept his sense for social justice.
