The fourth solo album (counting three studio sessions and a remix project) by the London-based/Niteroi-born nu-bossa star Sabrina Malheiros (the talented daughter of Azymuth's bassist and founding member Alex Malheiros) is a delightful trip through the galaxies of nu-jazz, electronic soul music, r&b, acid bossa and samba grooves. A flawless magical journey guided by Sabrina's creamy, soulful & sultry vocals.
The album starts well with "Bobeira" and keeps growing track by track, reaching its climax on the wonderful "Segredo" -- co-penned by Alex, Sabrina and her husband Daniel Maunick, son of Jean-Paul Bluey Maunick, the Incognito boss --, followed by my other personal favorite moments: an amazing version of Skip Scarborough's 1975 hit for Earth Wind & Fire "Can't Hide Love" (the only track sung in English!), the funkyfied "Primeira" and the glorious samba "Tem Dendê," that sounds better than any other samba recorded in the last decade and includes Sabrina's mother, Livia Malheiros, on the backing vocals. Pure pleasure.
PS: another Sabrina album, "Clareia," is coming out right now in Europe.
