On June 6 at Avonova, vocalist/composer Molly Holm continues her exploration of any-kind-of-tonal and free-form improvisation with her Impermanent Project, a women's ensemble that draws on a wide range of individual backgrounds from jazz, North Indian raga, R&B, music of the African diaspora, rock, folk, modern dance, dance improv and contemporary theater.
Molly's five-year project pushes the sonic boundaries and musical material of this small, purposely unruly choral group that honors a genuine, woman-centered approach to ensemble building. The group plays with freely composed and experimental vocal pieces during weekly rehearsals and carries forth the intention to faithfully follow "the unexpected" during live performances.
Previously known as Molly Holm and The Impermanent Ensemble, the group played in 2010 and 2012 at the Garden of Memory, Summer Solstice Walk-Through Concerts, hosted by New Music Bay Area at Chapel of the Chimes. Other concerts of note include the Montclair Women's Club Third Thursday series; a performance at Studio Haba na Haba; and a benefit concert for the Philippines Typhoon Disaster Relief. The group also performed at the Voci’s Women's Vocal Ensemble winter fundraiser under the direction of Anne Hege.
