George Benson: "Something 1975" (Beastones)
Featuring: George Benson (electric guitar, vocals), Jorge Dalto (acoustic piano, MiniMoog synth, Hohner clavinet), Ronnie Foster (Fender Rhodes, synths), Stanley Banks (electric bass), Marvin Chapell (drums)
This unofficial 2-CD set, recorded live @ the Great American Music Hall (a vamous jazz venue in San Francisco, CA) on April 5, 1975, includes some hits from Benson's CTI days. Among them: "El Mar" (from "White Rabbit") and "Take Five" (from "Bad Benson") -- both incomplete, unfortunately -- plus a bluesy take on his labelmate Stanley Turrentine's "Sugar" (which Benson originally recorded as a sideman on the landmark "Sugar" album), Phil Upchurch's "No Sooner Said Than Done" (also from "Bad Benson"), George Harrison's biggest hits for the Beatles, "Something" (from "The Other Side of Abbey Road"), Benson's own title track from "Body Talk," "Carifornia Dreamin'" (another favorite he cut for "White Rabbit" back in 1971) and Ronnie Scott's "Ronnie's Groove."
