Gilberto had been invited to perform also at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival 2010, on June 26 at the Toyota Park in Chicago, but he already cancelled his performance.
Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Fest will be a day-long musical celebration featuring collaborations by Eric and his friends including Allman Brothers Band, BB King, Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, John Mayer, Sheryl Crow, Steve Winwood, Vince Gill, ZZ Top, and more.
“I wanted to open it up a little,” Clapton had declared sometime ago, “so it’s not so much about virtuosity as roots. I'm especially excited by the booking of the reclusive Joao Gilberto, who rarely performs abroad. The whole thing was an excuse for getting him out of Brazil,” Clapton said. But, he adds, “a festival about guitar doesn’t have to be all heavy metal or all rock. It would probably surprise a lot of people who don’t play that someone like me or Derek Trucks [of the Allmans] can admire and enjoy someone like Gilberto."
The following artists are confirmed to participate in this unique event to benefit Crossroads Centre Antigua:
Albert Lee
Allman Brothers Band
BB King
Bert Jansch
Buddy Guy
David Hidalgo and Cesar Rosas of Los Lobos
Doyle Bramhall II
