CD Reissue of the Month - "João Gilberto: Chega de Saudade"

CD Reissue of the Month
João Gilberto: "Chega de Saudade" (Él/Cherry Red) 2010

The 12-page booklet includes rare pics, the original (by Antonio Carlos Jobim) and new liner notes, detailed data and personnel info, including the names of the musicians (Jobim, Copinha, Guaracy, Juquinha, Milton Banana, Rubens Bassini, Edmundo Maciel) of the 12 tracks from the original "Chega de Saudade" sessions, as well as the name of some of the guys who took part of the 14 additional tracks performed by such acts as Os Cariocas, Elizeth Cardoso (both performing "Chega de Saudade" backed by Gilberto on guitar), Norma Bengell (a nice reading of "Hoba-lá-lá" arranged by the uncredited Gaya with Bebeto on bass), Alaide Costa (lovely take of "Minha Saudade"), Walter Wanderley, João Donato (playing trombone in a 1957 take of "Minha Saudade"), Bola Sete (an even better take of "Minha Saudade," doing two phenomenal choruses of improvisation on electric guitar) and Bené Nunes. For an unofficial release, great sound quality too! No noise, no scratch (which means that the tracks were transferred not from vinyls, but from good copies of the master tapes), excellent remastering.
