7" Single of the Day (pic sleeve)
Raul de Souza: "Sweet Lucy / At Will" (Capitol) 1978
Brazil's top trombone player ever - voted among the Top 10 Trombonists of 2009 in the DownBeat Readers Poll and # 1 in the 31st Annual Jazz Station Poll -, my dear friend Raul de Souza had his biggest hit with the title track of his "Sweet Lucy" album for Capitol, back in 1977.
This rare single includes the edited version of "Sweet Lucy" that exploded in the airwaves as well as in dancefloors all around the world. Produced and arranged @ Paramount Studios, in LA, by George Duke.
Side B brings "At Will," a remake of the title track of his debut solo LP, "À Vontade Mesmo," recorded in Brazil for RCA in 1965 and reissued for the first time on CD by producer Arnaldo DeSouteiro for BMG in 2001. Composed & arranged by Raul himself, this '77 version features Patrice Rushen, Byron Miller, Leon "Ndugu" Chancler, Airto Moreira and Earth, Wind & Fire guitarist Al McKay.
